According to The Washington Post, President Obama has made a "compromise" of sorts. he will let the 1,716 students already enrolled in the program continue in it until they graduate high school. However, no new enrolees will be accepted, as the plan is still to discontinue the program.
So, although I'm thrilled for the current students enrolled in the Opportunity Scholarship, I'm sad for the eight thousand students that have applied for the scholarship and won't be able to take advantage of it. I just fail to understand how President Obama could think that spending under $2,000 per year for each student enrolled in the Opportunity Scholarship is worse than spending around $26,000 a year per student in the D.C. public schools.
But, of course, I also fail to see how getting us trillions of dollars in debt and taking on around a trillion in new "forever" spending is going to balance our budget and help us get out of this economic crisis.
